A soft, heavy, toxic and malleable poor metal naturally found in the earth’s crust, lead is bluish white when freshly cut, but then tarnishes to a dull gray when it is exposed to air. Lead can be found in many different parts of our environment, most of which derives from human activities, i.e. burning fossil fuels, mining, and manufacturing (Wikipedia, 2007). It is a potent neurotoxin which accumulates in soft tissues and bone over time. It is also a poisonous metal that can damage nervous connections (especially in young children) and cause blood and brain disorders.
